Monroe Traffic School
Monroe County Driving School
If you're a resident of Islamorada, Key Largo, Key West, Marathon, or North Key Largo Beach, have a Florida Driver's license,
or you received a traffic ticket in Florida, then traffic school may be for you! By electing traffic school you may be able
to avoid points on your driver's license, and maintain your clean driving record.
You may elect defensive driving school on any non-mandatory case that has points assessed. These are typically your
moving violations such as, speeding, running a red light, fail to maintain a single lane, child restraint.
If you elect the defensive driving school option, adjudication is withheld, the base fine is
reduced by 18%, and D.H.S.M.V. will not assess points against your driving record.
To elect this option, you must fill out this Traffic School Affidavit and pay the reduced fine amount within 30 calendar days of the date the officer issued the citation.
You must attend a defensive driving course in the State of Florida. Courses offered in other states are not acceptable.
Once you have completed the school, you must return the school completion certificate to the Clerk's office within 90 days
from the date you paid the school election fine.
Once
you elect traffic school you cannot change your mind, and decide to just pay the civil fine without doing the traffic
school.
There are 29 Driver School Course Providers in Florida. Traffic schools are listed
in your local telephone directory under "driving instruction" or "traffic schools. To find online you can click here for a list of approved Florida DMV approved traffic schools. The cost of traffic school is around $22 to $44.
